Our school is an old-established Primary School with a reputation of high standards in academic work, the arts and in sports.  We are proud of what we do, and our results are generally above national norms. Our children go on to do very well in life, and some even return to work in our school.

Our special aim is that every child in Collingwood Primary School finds and fosters at least one skill or attribute of which they can be proud.

The older part of the building was opened in 1929 and in 1951 the newer part was added. The school mainly serves the area between Wallsend Road and the Coast Road and is named after Admiral Lord Collingwood whose picture hangs in the entrance hall. There are 3 halls, 17 classrooms, a Nursery Unit and a Kitchen. There are 3 playgrounds and a playing field. The school caters for children from Nursery school age to 11.

We have 2 computer suites and a total of 100
computers including laptops and ipads. We have interactive whiteboards and data projectors in every classroom. This means that all teachers are able to use the resources of the internet in their teaching.
Our last three Ofsted reports have been very good, and in two of the three reports outstanding features were identified, most recently for pupil behaviour and safety. We have excellent teachers and support staff who are committed to helping our children be happy, learn well, and acquire a special skill which will stay with them throughout life. Our school is well known for its enrichment programme. We provide a wide range of clubs in sport, arts, crafts, music and homework, and our school curriculum uses skilled specialists for music, PE and French.

We have achieved national awards in many areas of school life, for example Arts Mark Gold, the Healthy Schools Award, Basic Skills Award, Investors in People and a Silver Languages Award. In 2010 the head was invited to Downing Street along with other Heads of schools which had achieved very well.
