Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage One: Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2

Year 1

Year 1 are doing fantastically well on their introduction to Key Stage One, they have returned to school happy and eager to learn!

The focus this is half term is 'Ourselves'. So the children will be learning all about their bodies and their local area.

Autumn homework for Year 1 is reading at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night) and in addition, they may receive handwriting sheets to practice their letter formation.  We are having a big push on handwriting in Year 1 & 2!

Trips

The children have some fantastic trips to look forward to in the autumn term.

Year 1 are currently planning a trip to a local farm and will notify you as soon as finalised.

Year 2 are already booked to go to a local Synagogue on Wednesday 11th October as part of their RE project.

Exciting events!

We have lots of exciting trips being planned for the children at present. Year 2 are already booked to go to a local Synagogue (Wednesday 11th October) as part of their RE project.

We hope that you will soon join us for our Harvest Festival at St Peter's on Tuesday 3rd October at 9:30 where we shall be singing up a storm!

Year 1 and 2 are extremely lucky as both year groups will be taking part in weekly PE lessons from some fantastic coaches. For Year 1 these lessons are run by Premier Sports and for Year 2 by the Newcastle United Foundation.

Year 2

Year 2 have also come back to school eager to learn. We have updated our classrooms with some lovely brand new tables and chairs for their comfort, and we are so pleased as they make the rooms look fantastic.

Year 2 are learning about 'The Great Fire of London' this term, so you may hear them humming 'London's burning' quite regularly!

Autumn homework for Year 2 is reading at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night) and in addition, they will receive handwriting sheets to practice their letter formation. This will be given out on a Wednesday and will need returned the following Wednesday. We are having a big push on handwriting in Year 1 & 2!

Year 2 SATs!

Last year's Year 2  worked really hard in their SATs tests at the end of year and we were so proud of the fantastic results they achieved.

Current Year 2 parents can help their child this year to achieve their best by ensuring: they keep up their excellent attendance, read regularly with them and practise their handwriting homework.
