Here at Collingwood we encourage our pupils to take on additional responsibilities to help them develop their communication, leadership, and confidence.
Collingwood Prefects
Collingwood prefects are students who are chosen by staff to take on responsibilities and help maintain a positive school environment. They are selected based on their outstanding behaviour, ability to act as role models for their peers, having good manners and showing all the qualities of our school values. Collingwood prefects, are in a sense, junior members of staff, they assist teachers and staff in various tasks, such as supervising younger students, organising school events, and helping with the smooth running of the school day. This role is a great way for pupils to develop leadership skills and contribute to their school community.
Collingwood Play Squad
Collingwood play squad are students who are selected by staff to take on responsibilities during playtimes and help create a safe, enjoyable environment for all pupils. They are chosen based on their positive behaviour, ability to work well with others, and their willingness to take initiative and support younger children. As part of their role, they organise and manage play equipment, lead a variety of fun and inclusive activities, and ensure that children are playing safely and fairly. Collingwood play squad members act as role models on the playground, helping to resolve minor issues and encouraging teamwork and kindness. This role allows pupils to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful contribution to the school community
School Council
Collingwood School Council is made up of students who are elected by their peers to represent the views and ideas of all pupils across the school. Members of the council demonstrate responsibility, confidence and a commitment to upholding our school values. They meet regularly to discuss ways to improve the school environment, share suggestions, and work alongside staff to help make positive changes. The School Council plays an important role in giving pupils a voice and provides an opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills while contributing to the wider school community.
Eco Warriors
Collingwood Eco Warriors are students who are committed to promoting sustainability and caring for the school environment. They meet weekly to plan and take part in a range of activities that support eco-friendly practices across the school. Members take on responsibilities such as carrying out bin weight audits, encouraging recycling, and helping to reduce waste. They also benefit from regular visits from members of the local community, who share knowledge on topics such as recycling and environmental care. Eco Warriors take part in trips and contribute to improving the school grounds, including planting trees and enhancing green spaces. This role enables pupils to develop a strong sense of responsibility, teamwork and environmental awareness while making a positive impact on their school community.
STEM ambassadors
Collingwood STEM Ambassadors are students who are selected for their strong interest in science and for standing out to staff as enthusiastic and engaged learners. They take part in weekly sessions where they carry out experiments and explore a range of STEM activities. Ambassadors demonstrate curiosity, teamwork and a commitment to learning, while developing their scientific understanding and inspiring others across the school.
The Collingwood Chronicle
Collingwood Chronicle is a student-led group, mainly made up of Year 6 pupils, who work together to produce the school’s newspaper. They meet weekly to plan, write and edit articles, reporting on recent events such as school trips and activities. Members are responsible for formatting the newspaper digitally and ensuring content is engaging and informative. This role allows pupils to develop their creativity, communication and teamwork skills while keeping the school community informed.
