SEND Vision at Collingwood:
Collingwood Primary School is an inclusive school which ensures that all pupils achieve their potential socially, emotionally, physically and academically. We strive to ensure quality first teaching is applied across the whole curriculum, using a range of differentiated teaching strategies, resources and activities. We aim to meet the needs of all children with SEND in the following 4 main areas of need.
Our job in school is to help your child achieve the very best they can whilst they are at with us. Together with your support and engagement, we work as a team and everyone in the team must work well together to focus upon enabling children to achieve their full potential. At Collingwood, our pupils 'think big, look far and make the best of who they are'.

Introduction to North Tyneside Local Offer
What is the Graduated Approach?
The graduated approach is North Tyneside’s approach to supporting children and young people who may have additional needs. There are three levels of support depending on the child or young person's needs. We use an Assess, Plan, Do, Review model to assess needs and implement appropriate support.

Inflatanation - ASD Friendly sessions
We know that sensory overload can be an issue for some children with Autism so we have the volume of the music much lower for these sessions. We also know that too many people can reduce enjoyment levels so we limit the number of people in the venues. Disability-friendly sessions take place on a weekly basis and can be booked online in advance. A parent/carer can also enter the arena FREE of charge with every participant.
Pupil Voice:
At Collingwood, we believe that pupil voice is essential in order for children to flourish and achieve. It allows pupils to express their own needs and perspectives, ensuring that support and interventions are tailored to suit their unique experiences and goals. Listening to the child promotes empowerment, giving them a sense of ownership over their learning journey, which can improve their motivation, confidence and wellbeing.
What is autism?
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people perceive, interact and communicate with others. It is described as a 'spectrum' because it presents differently in each individual, with a wide range of abilities, strengths, and challenges.
At Collingwood, we work closely with Autism North East to support both children and families. Autism NE offers various programs, including social groups, workshops, and outreach, aimed at fostering understanding, acceptance and empowerment within the Autism Community.

A visit from Richie @ Awesometistic!
We were lucky enough to have a very special visit from Richie and Sue from Awesometistic. Richie gave staff an amazing and bravely honest insight into what Autism is like first hand on a day to day basis. Not only was the chat informative, but he also gave us lots of ideas and strategies which we can implement into our practice at Collingwood. Thank you!
What is ADHD?
ADHD or Attention - Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can vary widely in intensity and presentation.
