Reading Rewards

We are delighted to announce the arrival of our fantastic new Reading Vending Machine!

At Collingwood, we place reading at the heart of everything we do and are keen to continue maximising home reading. Each classroom in school has a Reading Chart, on which children colour in a square and earn 1 dojo point each time they read at home. When our children reach 10, 20 and 30 home reads they receive a small prize from their teacher’s prize box and when they reach 40 home reads they are now able to select a brand new book of their choice from our new vending machine! Our school council have worked hard to select exciting new books that will engage and inspire your little readers!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go” Dr. Seuss

Did you know...

  • reading reduces stress by 68%?
  • if you read for 20 minutes a day, you would read 1,800,000 words each year?
  • children learn 4,000-12,000 words a year through reading?
  • if you read one book a day to your child, they will have heard 1850 books by the time they are 5?
  • when children have a home library of as little as 20 books, they achieve 3 more years of schooling than a child with no books?

Please help us to ensure your children become the best readers they can be, with regular practice at home.
