Dear parents and carers,
It feels like a life-time since seeing you all – I’m sure that, like me, you are desperate for everything to get back to the hustle and bustle which used to be ‘normal’. I am glued to the news every day looking for a glimmer of hope that the horrors of the past weeks and months are passing at that we will be able to re-open our lovely school to your children.
However, we have to carry on with what we have been tasked to do and as soon as we are given any guidance on the way forward, I will be in touch immediately.
I wanted to let you know that from next Monday 4th May, we will be launching our new website. The address is the same as the one at the top of this letter and I hope that you will find it user-friendly and informative. Please continue to follow us on Twitter – the main feed is on the welcome page and the year group feeds are easily found on the year group pages. Communication has been challenging during this time but we have found that email, text and twitter have helped us to keep you in touch with the ever shifting challenges which have been presented to us. Therefore, it is now more important than ever that your email addresses are current and that you check them regularly for important information about such things as: vouchers, the government technology application scheme and google classroom logins.
On that note, I hope that you are managing to keep your children busy at home and have found the work posted on the google classrooms useful. There are also paper copies which many of you have collected from school. We intend continuing with these systems for as long as necessary and welcome any comments and feedback from yourselves. This week, we would like to turn our attention to changing reading (or ‘choosy’) books. So, if your child has finished their books, please bring them to school in a bag or packet (with the child’s name clearly displayed) and place them in the box for the correct year group. It would be very helpful if you could make a note in the home/school record book (or on a piece of paper) as to whether your child has found the books to be at the appropriate level or too easy or too difficult. We will be taking care to employ safe measures for staff to change the books and will send you a message to collect new books in a few days.
Both myself and other members of staff have spoken to many of you over the phone during the past 5 weeks and we will continue to keep in touch. Please don’t hesitate to ring school if you would like any advice or practical support that you think we might be able to offer - we have a number of outside agencies that we can sign post you to. Alternatively, please just ring for a chat at any time!
I hope that I will have some good news to share with you next time I am in touch. But for now, on behalf of all staff and governors, I would like to wish you all the very best - please keep safe and well.
Yours sincerely,
H Bland
Welcome to our brand new school website! We have created the website to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things our pupils are achieving. The website is extremely easy to edit by all staff at the school, so check back soon for new updates!
Please have a look at our video that shows you some great ideas of how to read with your child at home! It’s so important that children build up to reading for 15 mins a day whilst in primary school as it really helps them to carry on making great progress in secondary school.

COLLINGWOOD NEWS – Autumn 2– 2019
|
Dear parents and carers,
Because there is so much going on at the moment, I thought I would send this newsletter early.
We have had an excellent first half term at Collingwood this year and improvements to the building are still going on. New i-pads have been ordered alongside sound-proofing and a new screen for the IT suite. The doors in the corridor and in the Reception and year 1 classes are due to be completed during half term and the asbestos removal is on track ready for the temporary heating to be installed on time—we will not be sorry to say goodbye to the calor gas heaters!
Please could you make sure that there are no children on the yard before 8am in the mornings as there is no supervision and we are concerned about the possible dangers on the dark, cold winter mornings.
I look forward to seeing you all at the up-and-coming events in the run up to Christmas.

Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back to school to all of our new and ‘old’ families, children and staff!
There have been some exciting improvements to the premises over the summer—the nursery has been completely refurbished and looks amazing/ the outdoor area has been astro turfed/ we have a new enclosed computer suite/ year 2 classrooms have lovely new carpets and a state-of-the art fire alarm system has been installed.
On the down side, our heating boilers were condemned during the holidays. Luckily, we still have hot water and North Tyneside council will fit a new boiler and are providing a mobile heating unit for us in time for the cooler weather. However, due to necessary asbestos removal, we will have to live with the inconvenience of an area of the yard being cordoned off for a number of weeks but I am confident that we can easily work round this.
Please take a moment to check the diary for the up-and-coming events and I look forward to seeing you all soon. Mrs Bland
